Understanding confidence states

Most survey tools will happily chart 12 responses as if they were the truth. We don't. Every result carries a **confidence state** so you always know how much weight it can bear:

• **Collecting** (red) — not enough data yet. The numbers you see could easily flip as more responses arrive. Keep sharing the survey.
• **Emerging** (amber) — a direction is visible, but the margin of error is still wide. Treat findings as hypotheses, not decisions.
• **Confident** (green) — the sample is large enough, and the statistics check out. These results are reliable enough to act on.

The thresholds aren't arbitrary: they're based on sample size per question (and per variant, if you're testing wording), statistical power, and margin of error.

Two things worth knowing:

• **Your raw data is always yours.** You can view and export every response at any state — only *conclusions* wait for Confident.
• **Small samples aren't failures.** Forty thoughtful responses in the Emerging state can be genuinely useful — the state just tells you to hold the findings loosely.
